FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

   

There are several programs that help families with registration fees for minor sports.  Strait Richmond Minor Hockey Association works in confidence with parents and funding partners to ensure all kids have the opportunity to play hockey.

If you apply for any type of funding and receive notification that you have been approved, it is very important that you contact the SRMHA Treasurer at srmhafinance@outlook.com and notifiy them of this information along with the approval information and funding amount to be received.

Below are some programs that are available:  

 

KIDSPORT


 

KidSport provides grants to kids from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sport programs and experience the lifelong benefits of a season of sport. KidSport Inverness / Richmond provides grants of up to $500 per eligible kid, per year (January 1st - December 31st)  towards sport registration fees.

FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY

KidSport Inverness / Richmond uses a CRA Notice of Assessment as the primary document to determine financial eligibility for grants. They also accept Social Income Assistance Statement, an endorsement from the Department of Community Services, or an endorsement from Indigenous Social Development to determine financial eligibility for grants, if applicable.

Application deadline dates are the first working day in the months of January, March, May, June, July, September, October and November

JUMPSTART

Jumpstart is another program you may also qualify for.  Kids aged 4-18 from families in financial need can receive funding to help with registation fees, and/ or equipment.  

-To be eligible for funding for one or more children, families must first meet specific financial criteria as per Revenue Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Offs (LICO) chart

-Children must fall between the ages of 4 - 18 years old 

- Due to a high demand for funding since January 2024, the Individual Child Grant application window is now closed at some Chapters across Canada. To confirm whether your local Chapter is still accepting applications, please login and refer to your Jumpstart account before starting the application process. Additionally, please continue to check your Jumpstart account for updates on local funding availability.

- The maximum amount of funding per application is $300

HOCKEY CANADA ASSIST FUND

 

The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund is a fund dedicated to help Canadian youth access hockey. It will provide up to $500 per player in registration fee subsidies to approved applicants registered with a sanctioned Hockey Canada association.

FINANCIAL ELIGIBILITY

The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund is open to applicants (as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency) who currently meet the LICO (low income cutoff) as established by Stats Canada.

RINKS TO LINKS

The Rinks to Links Golf Classic continues to be our way of giving back to our home community. With your help, we carry on our commitment to raising funds for boys and girls who cannot afford the high cost of playing minor hockey

 

Minor Hockey Funding Allocation Policy

  1. A child cannot receive more than one grant in a year (rep fees are not eligible for funding)
  2. A child must be registered or entering into the Antigonish (AHMA) or Strait-Richmond Minor Hockey Association (SRMHA)
  3. First time recipients must be under 16 years of age
  4. Funds are awarded for registration fees and equipment costs only
  5. Application deadline Friday, August 23rd, 2024
  6. Applicants will be contacted within two weeks of the deadline notifying them of the status of their application
  7. Registration grants will be arranged with the Minor Hockey Association. Equipment grants will be arranged with Cleve’s Source for Sports in Antigonish. Names of applicants will be shared with our two partnering organizations.
